While the Gittin’ is Good

July 4th, 2007 § 1

A friend recently left a job he’d been unhappy with and began (what sounds like to me) a new chapter of his life. Nothing too dramatic, just a shucking of the old and enjoying the new. But it inspired me to write a song. So here it is.

A thousand thanks to [Gord Fynes](http://gordasm.org/) for providing me with a drum track played by a real drummer (albeit on a keyboard). The loops that come with GarageBand are good, but nothing compares to a real drummer. Hopefully Gord and I will work on more stuff together in the future.

Jena, Louisiana and the Jena Six

June 27th, 2007 § 4

In September 2006, a group of African American high school students in Jena, Louisiana, asked the school for permission to sit beneath a “whites only” shade tree. There was an unwritten rule that blacks couldn’t sit beneath the tree. The school said they didn’t care where students sat. The next day, students arrived at school to see three nooses (in school colors) hanging from the tree.

It gets worse. Read the rest over at While Seated.
Appalled doesn’t even begin to cover how I feel about this.

Pixelmator

May 31st, 2007 Comments Off

Pixelmator is aiming to be a Photoshop competitor. Granted, it’s easy to make a really nice web site and never produce a product, but I love the idea of using this and [Lineform](http://www.freeverse.com/lineform/) and ditching Photoshop and Illustrator. Of course I won’t be able to for the same reason that I still have Microsoft Office on my laptop. Because *other* people haven’t changed yet.
