A few weeks back, some folks at a web site where I hang out proposed that the members of the site cover an entire album. After a little discussion, the decision was made to do [Flood](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flood_(They_Might_Be_Giants_album)) by [They Might Be Giants](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They_Might_Be_Giants). I haven’t recorded anything in a while, so I impulsively jumped on board and said I’d record track 10, “Someone Keeps Moving My Chair”. Here it is.

<noembed>Someone Keeps Moving My Chair by David McCreath</noembed>

As in the past, this was recorded in GarageBand and [Gord Fynes](http://gordasm.org/) provided drums. I’m pretty happy with how this turned out.
I know at least one other track has been posted publicly.
Birdhouse in Your Soul, by D. Blackburn
I don’t know if the rest will be or not, but if they are, I’ll post links here.
(Here’s the [Last.fm page for the original version](http://www.last.fm/music/They+Might+Be+Giants/_/Someone+Keeps+Moving+My+Chair). They only have a 30 second clip, but there’s also a YouTube video embedded.)

Lyrics:
Poor old Scooter Libby
Tin soldier for the cause
Grabbed on to that can of worms
And took a bullet for his boss
The jury strung him up
And hung him out to dry
But good old Emperor Bush
Came along to dry his eye
Let’s send Scooter to Gitmo
Let’s send Scooter to Gitmo
Let’s send Scooter to Gitmo
And Cheney back to Hell
(repeat)
21st century Ollie North
He should get a show on Fox
If healthy living wasn’t so liberal
He could get a Wheaties box
When he gets his pardon
It’ll have a lovely frame
He’ll hang it on his SUV
But we’ll know who’s to blame
Let’s send Scooter to Gitmo
Let’s send Scooter to Gitmo
Let’s send Scooter to Gitmo
And Cheney back to Hell
(repeat)
A couple of quick production notes:
* I had invaluable lyrical help from a friend. The quick ideas that he sent me were not nearly so thuddingly simple as mine, but these fit better. Still, I couldn’t have done it without him.
* I hadn’t actually played a hardcore song for several years. It’s easy to forget how hard it is to change chords really fast for a minute and a half, to say nothing of an entire set.
* This is again recorded in GarageBand. I used a real mic for the vocals instead of the built-in one, which helped a lot.
* The drums were not recorded by a real drummer, despite what I said on [While the Gittin' Good](http://dmccreath.org/2007/07/while-the-gittin-is-good.php). I did them myself, so they’re super super simple. I’m sure Gord would have done something cooler, but I really wanted to bang this one out fast.

A thousand thanks to [Gord Fynes](http://gordasm.org/) for providing me with a drum track played by a real drummer (albeit on a keyboard). The loops that come with GarageBand are good, but nothing compares to a real drummer. Hopefully Gord and I will work on more stuff together in the future.
